Kia ora and welcome!

I’m Kate, Kate Brown, and I believe a really good cake is one of life’s delights. While I have always been an avid eater of cakes, it is only in the past few years, while living in London, that my forte for baking them has flourished.

I’m a New Zealander at heart and was brought up to cook and love good food. My dad’s happy place is in the kitchen with his music on and a glass of wine or beer at arm’s length, I have followed suit and thoroughly enjoy cooking and creating. Neither Dad nor Mum were big bakers, Mum would occasionally produce some Kiwi classics like piklets, banana cake and apple muffins. Therefore I am largely self-taught.

I take inspiration from Julia Child, her book Mastering the Art of French Cooking is an informative delight, the recipes and dishes that result never ceasing to amaze.

With all this food, baking and eating it is a good thing that I also like to exercise. I have a background in gymnastics and keep myself fit through cycling, running and classes at the gym. I also love to travel and visit new countries, always making sure to sample the local cuisines.

This blog will share my culinary adventures, creating a range of indulgent delights with emphasis on interesting flavours, from cookies and croissants to pies and puddings.
